Superfan Wants Her Late Mom's Candlestick Park Seat To Complete Set She Ordered

HAYWARD (KPIX 5) -- A Hayward woman who paid hundreds of dollars to get a specific piece of Candlestick Park history said she was not given the seat she was promised.

For 36 years, LeAnne Gerlach and her brother Ken Rowe went to Candlestick to watch the 49ers and the Giants, firmly planted between their mom and grandpa.

So, as the final second ticked off the clock at The 'Stick last December 23rd, Gerlach  and Rowe marked the moment.

"I'd already known that we were going to purchase those seats, so we brought a sharpie," Gerlach told KPIX 5.

She wrote a note saying, "Mom, This will always be your seat. Love you! Miss you! LeAnne and Ken."

They left a note for pops', too.

The brother and sister jumped at the chance to order those exact seats, lower reserve, underneath the overhang, section 1 row 10. They got pops' seat 12, but not mom's seat 10.

"Different number, different seat, different location," Gerlach said.

Most importantly, the other seat they received had no note.

"You spend $630 for a 40-year-old seat. You expect to get the right ones," Rowe said.

Gerlach said, "It was unbelievably devastating."

The 'Stick was a cold, unforgiving stadium. But its where they shared 36 years of memories of their mom, a passionate Niners and Giants fan, who died just before the Giants had their World Series victory in 2010.

"It would mean everything to our family to get that seat back. I don't know what it is, it's more than special. It's not hallowed ground, but something that she's always sat in," Gerlach said.

After seeing her story on Facebook, the 49ers called Gerlach a short time ago to say they will work to find the correct seat.
