Super Bowl Committee Launches '50 Fund' To Use Game To Improve Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – When San Francisco won the bid to host the 50th Super Bowl, locals were told that a quarter of the proceeds from the event would go right back into the community. We're about to get more details on where those funds will go.

The San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Committee will launch the '50 Fund' next Tuesday with the introduction of two grant programs for Bay Area Nonprofits. The committees signature philanthropy program will be kicked off in a one-hour live tweet session with Raiders defensive end Justin Tuck and 49er receiver Anquan Boldin, who are pairing with the organizing committee to close the opportunity gap for youth in the host community.

"We believe there is a golden opportunity to lift up Bay Area communities, unite our region through a spirit of generosity and leave a legacy that lasts for generations to come," said Jason Trimiew, VP of Community Relations for the Host Committee.

Both Tuck and Bolden will participate in the Tweet session on December 2nd, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The group will be using the hashtag #50FundChat to detail plans for improving local educational opportunities.

Tuck backs the R.U.S.H. For Literacy program which operates in the Bay Area and three other locations. Boldin's Q81 Foundation also works to improve the educational opportunities for underprivileged youth.
