71-Year-Old Man Killed In Fire At Sunnyvale Mobile Home Park

SUNNYVALE (KPIX 5) – A 71-year-old man has died and a 67-year-old woman has been hospitalized following a fire that broke out at a mobile home park in Sunnyvale late Monday night.

Officials with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said the fire was reported at the El Dorado mobile home park near Fair Oaks Avenue and Tasman Drive around 10 p.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they rescued the woman, who was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. But once they spotted a second fire victim, it was too late.

"It was very quiet. So I don't know how long the fire was actually going," said Cecilia Ayola Franklin, who lives at the mobile home park. "It shook me because it gutted the place. I was only outside for maybe a half an hour and the entire place was gone from the inside."

No other injuries were reported.

The Santa Clara County coroner's office has not released the identity of the man killed in the fire.

Sunnyvale firefighters and the Santa Clara County Fire Investigation Task Force have launched an investigation into the fire, but said there is currently no indication that the fire was suspicious in nature.

Anyone with additional information about the fire is asked to contact Detective Scott McCullough at (408) 730-7119 or by e-mailing smcculloch@sunnyvale.ca.gov.
