Sunnyvale Charter School Closed After Employee Arrested For Allegedly Molesting Student

SUNNYVALE (CBS/AP) -- A Sunnyvale charter school has been ordered to temporarily close following the arrest of a teacher's aide accused of molesting an 8-year-old student.

Spark Charter School announced Saturday that the Santa Clara County Office of Education ordered the school to close until background checks on staff are completed. It wasn't immediately clear why the school opened in August without having the checks completed as required by its charter and the state.

Eighteen-year-old Jonathan Chow, who appeared in court Friday, faces several charges, including sexual penetration with a minor and possession of child pornography.

His alleged victim reported the incident to her parents and school employees.

School officials say teachers and other staff were fingerprinted Friday, but the results haven't yet been made available.
