Suicidal Man Armed With 2 Guns Barricades Himself In San Mateo Home

SAN MATEO (KCBS) – San Mateo police have surrounded a home on the 600 block of Edna Way, as they attempt to negotiate with a distraught man who has two guns with him.

Police were called by a relative of the man around 7:00 a.m., that he was threatening to harm himself.

San Mateo police Sgt. Rick Decker said a robot has been used to deliver a phone, as negotiators continue to speak to the man. Relatives said he is dealing with financial problems.

"He's going between the front lawn to his garage and inside the house. He's now face-to-face negotiating with one of our negotiators," Decker said. "We're just trying to get him to peacefully surrender so we can end the incident."

There is a large police presence in the area from multiple agencies, including a SWAT team.

So far, no one has been injured in the incident.

Decker said they are willing to wait as long it takes until the man peacefully surrenders.
