Student Suffers Minor Injury When Truck Hits Petaluma School Bus

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- A small Petaluma School District bus transporting special needs students was in an accident with a truck in Petaluma Thursday afternoon, a Petaluma Fire Department battalion chief said.

A male child on board suffered a minor injury and was taken to Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Medical Center as a precaution, Battalion Chief Chad Costa said.

The female driver of the half-ton pickup and her child also suffered a minor injury but were not taken to a hospital, Costa said.

The accident happened around 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of East Washington Street and Maria Drive. The truck broad-sided the bus and blocked the intersection, Costa said.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the incident because it involved a school bus, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said. Sloat also said the injuries were minor.
