Storm Shuts Down San Francisco Cable Cars, Some Bay Ferry Service

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Tourists willing to brave the stormy weather in San Francisco Thursday won't get the chance to check "ride a cable car" off their San Francisco to-do list.

The San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority shut down all cable cars before the front hit San Francisco.

The braking systems of the century-old cars are not meant for use in such wet conditions.

San Francisco Bay Ferry service was canceled Thursday due to the storm. As of 7 a.m. Golden Gate Ferry service was operating a normal schedule. That service was offering updates on ferry and bus service online.
