Store Evacuated At San Jose Mall After Natural Gas Line Rupture

SAN JOSÉ (KCBS) — A Smart & Final store at the Westgate Mall in San Jose was evacuated Thursday morning after a forklift working behind the building struck and ruptured a natural gas line, an emergency dispatcher said.

The fire department dispatcher told KCBS that the incident happened at about 8:30 a.m at the store at Prospect Road and Saratoga Avenue and said that PG&E was called in.

No other stores or businesses were evacuated.

PG&E said that they were able to cap the rupture at 9:13 a.m.

An employee at Smart & Final told KCBS that the store was able to reopen after about 30 minutes.
