Stolen, Rigged SUV Crashes Into Oakland Home While Residents Sleep Inside
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An SUV crashed into an Oakland home early Saturday morning as residents slept inside.
It happened in the 4000 block of Coolidge Avenue.
Police said an unidentified suspect around 1:15 a.m. apparently placed bricks on the gas pedal of a stolen Chevrolet SUV and put the car in gear, sending it hurtling into several parked cars before crashing into the garage of the home.
A resident said he heard a loud bang and the crash shook the entire house.
It is unclear how many people were asleep inside the home, but everyone inside was able to get out safely.
Firefighters had to evacuate 3 neighboring homes because the SUV also struck the main utility lines and rupture a gas line.
PG&E crews were called to the scene to turn off the gas line and the evacuees were able to return home.
So far, there are no suspects.
