Stolen Refrigerated Trailer Among Vehicles Recovered In Oakland Chop Shop Bust
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Alameda community urban farming group will get its stolen refrigerated trailer back after it was recovered in a Friday morning bust of an Oakland chop shop, according to authorities.
The trailer -- which was stolen from a lot in San Leandro over the weekend --was one of a dozen stolen vehicles found during the bust.
The Alameda County Deputy Sheriff's activity league uses the $50,000 refrigerated trailer for a community outreach urban farming program.
It was taken Saturday night after someone broke a lock around a gate on sheriff's department property in San Leandro.
As a matter of fact, he drove right past the station here and got on the freeway, said Alameda County Sheriffs Sgt. Ray Kelly.
Through tips, authorities found the trailer early Thursday morning at a chop shop off Hegengerger Road in Oakland.
When our officers showed up, they then began to scurry and start to hide things. There was this duffle bag that has something in it that's in question here. We believe it to be weapons.
Officers are now searching an Oakland canal for that bag of weapons. Two people were placed under arrest, while one suspect is still outstanding.
