Stolen Dog Reunited With Tracy Family 3 Years Later

TRACY (KPIX 5) -- A Tracy family has been reunited with their beloved pet three years after the dog was stolen from their backyard.

Oakland Animal Services found their Shiba Inu wandering the streets last week. Workers discovered she had been microchipped and were able to contact the family.

Ian McNesby said he and his family had long given up hope of seeing their Hana again. "Nobody had seen the dog at any of the parks around our neighborhood. we had no idea what had happened."

McNesby said when he got the call from the shelter it was the surprise of a lifetime.

His 8-year-old daughter, Mia, was estatic. "I am really happy, as happy as I could be," she said.

McNesby said he bought Hana in Japan when he was stationed there with the U.S. Army. He says he's going to give his old friend the 5-star treatment when they get home.

"Oh yeah, we already said we're going to baby her, spoil her as much as we can," said McNesby. "I mean, it's just amazing."

Hana has a skin infection on her back that's caused her to lose a lot of her fur. But the shelter says it's treatable and she should be just fine in no time.
