Stolen Car Driver Arrested After Highway 24 Chase, Crash In Orinda

ORINDA (CBS SF) -- A Martinez man was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly crashing a stolen car while fleeing police on state Highway 24 in Lafayette and Orinda.

Lafayette police said officers responded around 6:35 a.m. to a report of a suspicious circumstance near Pleasant Hill Road and Stanley Boulevard in Lafayette and found a man driving a Honda Accord that had been reported stolen out of Martinez.

Officers ordered the suspect out of the car but he drove off, prompting a pursuit.

At one point during the chase, the suspect nearly hit a police vehicle and then continued onto westbound Highway 24, police said.

Police said the man crashed the stolen car into a light pole at the Wilder Road exit in Orinda and fled the scene on foot.

Officers later found and apprehended the man with the aid of a police K-9.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jack Davey, was arrested and taken to county jail in Martinez.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, a used Honda Accords was the most stolen car in the U.S. in 2013.
