Police Investigate Death Of Stockton Boy Brought To Pleasanton Hospital

STOCKTON (CBS SF) -- The death of a 2-year-old boy who was brought to a hospital in Pleasanton on Friday was briefly investigated as a possible homicide in Oakland but investigators now believe the child was injured in Stockton, police said Tuesday.

The boy's family brought him to a hospital in Pleasanton on Friday, where he died, Stockton police spokesman Officer Joe Silva said today.

Authorities at the hospital were suspicious of the boy's injuries and originally thought they happened in Oakland.

Oakland police initially investigated whether the boy's injuries had happened there, responding to the 2300 block of East 17th Street at 1:45 p.m. to investigate.

However, by Saturday investigators concluded the boy had been injured in Stockton, Silva said. Stockton police responded to investigate and recovered the boy's body.

"We believe that whatever happened to the boy occurred in Stockton," Silva said.

Authorities are awaiting the outcome of an autopsy that will be done on the boy later this week before deciding how their investigation proceeds, Silva said.

Police have interviewed the boy's family members but no one is in custody for the boy's death at this time, he said.
