Steph Curry Loses Shooting Contest To Golfer At Safeway Open

Golden State Warriors' guard Stephen Curry's love for golf is well known at this point. He is, by all accounts an avid golf fan and a pretty good golfer himself having played in various pro-am competitions as well as playing with the president.

This week, Curry is at the Safeway Open, and while playing the course, found himself in an abbreviated shooting competition with golfer Harold Varner III. What happened next was surprising. Curry lost.

As they reached the green on No. 17, one fan tossed a basketball to Curry and implored him to shoot. He swished about a 25-footer, then retreated to a distance he figured was the equivalent of half-court.

Curry missed several attempts, as did Varner. Then the PGA Tour pro beat the NBA MVP at his own game, punctuating an uncommon round of golf.

One other weird twist to the story, Curry was originally supposed to play with Tiger Woods in the pro-am prior to Woods' withdrawal from the event earlier this week. That's when he was then partnered up with Varner and thus, the shooting contest happened.
