Steel Plates On Roadway Slow Bay Bridge Commute To A Crawl
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Commuters who factored in the usual lighter traffic across the Bay Bridge this Friday likely found themselves turning up late to work after a painfully slow commute from the East Bay.
Newly-installed steel plates on the upper deck caused speeds to slow significantly, and backed up traffic beyond the toll plaza well into the 9:00 a.m. hour.
Bay Bridge: still massive delays into SF, up to an hour, due to metal plates in 3 left lanes before Fremont St. Consider alternate routes.

The timing of the delay, was particularly troubling to those who remembered what happened on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge 25 years ago.
Stuck in slow traffic on the Bay Bridge... Listening to news reports about the 89 quake... This is my nightmare.
