SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The police shooting of an unarmed man in Missouri has inspired a Twitter hashtag spreading across social media sites.

#IfTheyGunnedMeDown spread quickly across San Francisco-based message service Twitter after police fatally shot Mike Brown in a suburb of St. Louis Saturday afternoon. The hashtag is being used to draw attention to how victims of police shootings are portrayed in media.

Users posted pictures along with the hashtag showing contrasting photos of themselves, questioning which image would be used in news coverage had they been shot by police.
