Spring Storm Dumps Half-Foot Of Snow On Reno

RENO, Nev. (CBS / AP) — A storm has dumped more than a half-foot of snow around parts of Reno and Sparks.

Snow was falling at a rate of about one inch per hour early Monday, triggering dozens of fender benders and snarling slippery roads during the morning commute the day after Easter.

Truckee Meadows Community College cancelled classes. Chains or snow tires are required on most mountain highways in the Sierra.

The heaviest snow so far has fallen just north of the metro area, with 8 inches in Wingfield Springs north of Sparks and 9 inches across the California line in Plumas County. About 7 inches of snow was reported west of Reno in Verdi.

Less snow was reported at Lake Tahoe, with about 3 inches at lake level in Incline Village.
