Spare The Air Days Cause Drop In Business For Firewood Business

HALF MOON BAY (CBS SF) -- The wood burning ban prompted by consecutive Spare The Air days in the Bay Area caused a drop in business for at least one firewood business along the Peninsula.

The sales manager at Alerts Burn Firewood Sales in Half Moon Bay said the recent cold weather has been a mixed blessing.

"It's getting cold in the evening; it reminds people to stock up on the firewood.  But, the other side of the coin is people don't like to burn if it's a spare the air day," James Olsen said.

Wood fires are only allowed on Spare The Air days if a wood stove or fireplace is your only source of heat.

Fines for violations start around $100.
