Southern California Crews Battle Brush Fire Burning Near Highway 101 In Ventura County

LOS ANGELES (CBS LA) -- About 600 firefighters were battling a 1,250-acre blaze in Ventura County on Saturday.

The fire was first reported late Friday night and spread rapidly as winds in excess of 50 mph spread embers and fanned flames.

Evacuations were ordered for 60 homes in Solimar Beach, as well as at Solimar beach and Emmawood campgrounds. Voluntary evacuations were in place at Faria Beach.

The Pacific Coast Highway was closed in both directions for roughly 15 miles between state highways 150 and 33, forcing holiday motorists onto narrow back-country roads.
