Sofia Coppola In Talks To Direct Live-Action 'Little Mermaid' Film

(CBS SF) – Sofia Coppola, daughter of Francis Ford Coppola has been tapped to direct a live action version of "The Little Mermaid." The classic Hans Christian Andersen story has been done famously by Disney in 1989 and recently Disney took on Andersen's Snow Queen story in their hit movie "Frozen."

The live-action fairy tale will be produced by "Working Title Films" and Universal Pictures with Caroline Thompson writing the script, according to Deadline.com.

Coppola is best known for her original screenplay work on 2003's "Lost In Translation." The film was also nominated for Best Picture and a nomination nod for Coppola as Best Director. Coppola's most recent film was 2013's "The Bling Ring" starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter films) and Taissa Farmiga (Bates Motel).
