SoCal Beach Remains Closed After Possible Shark Attack
CORONA DEL MAR (CBS SF) -- A two-mile stretch of a southern California beach will remain closed on Monday after a woman was reportedly attacked by a shark.
According to the Orange County Register, the Sheriff's Harbor Patrol and a Huntington Beach Fire Department helicopter have been patrolling the waters but no shark has been spotted.
Authorities are calling in an expert to determine if the woman was attacked by a shark or not.
The victim was swimming about 150 yards off the coast of Corona Del Mar beach Sunday when she was bitten on her torso and shoulder.
The crew aboard a rescue boat spotted her calling for help and pulled her out of the water. The woman was wearing a wetsuit. She had large bite marks and was bleeding heavily, but conscious and breathing.
It happened around 4:15 p.m. and the beach was evacuated shortly afterwards.
She is being treated at Orange County Global Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
