Evacuated Residents In Snell Fire Allowed To Return Home

NAPA (CBS SF) – Improving conditions allowed residents who had been forced to evacuate over the weekend because of the advancing flames of the Snell Fire to return to their homes Monday.

Napa County officials lifted all conditions but warned returning residents "to stay alert and vigilant as fire conditions can always change."

"Fire personnel are still active in the area with numerous large firefighting apparatus on the roadways," officials said. "Please drive cautiously when returning."

The fire that began at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in grassy oak woodlands near the Berryessa Estates community was 30 percent contained as of Monday morning, according to Cal Fire. No structures have been damaged or destroyed, but 180 structures are threatened.

Cal Fire said 1,241 personnel are fighting the wildfire.

The CHP had also reopened access to Berryessa Knoxville Road from the Putah Creek Bridge north to the county line and Snell Valley Road at Butts Canyon Road.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
