Snake Wranglers Busy As Hot Weather Draws Them Into Bay Area Yards, Homes
SEBASTOPOL (KPIX 5) -- Bay Area snake wranglers are busy this week as the hot weather draws snakes into backyards and urban areas.
"Everybody, I'm telling you right now, it's a good year for rattlesnakes," Sonoma County Reptile Rescue Director Al Wolf said.
Sonoma County Reptile Rescue is responding to an increasing number of calls for help from homeowners who find rattlesnakes in their yards and homes.
"We've had great rains. We've got all the grass, all the seeds, a huge rodent supply this year. So, the snakes are moving," Wolf said.
When given the chance, snakes will move away from you. If you discover one in your garage, snake wrangler Laurie Osbourne says, "Animal Control, or a lot of times a local fire department will remove them."
While the warm weather will bring out more snakes than we may have seen in a while, not all of them are venomous – in fact, most are harmless.
