Small Plane Runs Out Of Fuel On Flight From Tracy To Hawaii, Pilot Rescued

TRACY (CBS SF) – A pilot from the Central Valley has been rescued after he ditched his small plane 250 miles off the coast of Hawaii on Sunday.

According to authorities, the pilot was flying alone in his single-engine plane, on a trip from Tracy to Maui.

The pilot radioed authorities that he was running low on fuel. He was told by the U.S. Coast Guard to ditch his plane near a cruise ship.

After receiving the order, the pilot was able to use a parachute system to ease into the ocean. The pilot was able to get into a life raft and was picked up by the cruise ship's crew.

According to The Associated Press, another plane running low on fuel ditched off the coast of Oahu on Sunday. All four people on board were rescued.
