Sisters Accused Of Swaddling Babies Too Tight At Their Livermore Daycare Plead No Contest

HAYWARD (CBS/AP) -- Two Northern California sisters have pleaded no contest to charges they endangered the lives of infants at their daycare by binding them too tightly in swaddling blankets.

Lida and Nazila Sharaf each pleaded no contest Monday to one count of felony child abuse.

Authorities said the women wrapped seven babies up for long periods of time in swaddling blankets that were secured with heavy-duty knots.

The sisters, both mothers themselves, are expected to be sentenced Jan. 6 to five years felony probation and a yearlong treatment program for child abusers.

Because of their conviction, the former owners of a Livermore preschool are forbidden from ever again working in child care after.
