Sinkhole In SF Pacific Heights Repaired; Street To Close Again For Repaving Monday

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A sinkhole that opened up in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood Thursday evening has been filled, according to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

The 17-foot by 22-foot by 10-foot sinkhole appeared on Sacramento Street, between Lyon and Baker streets, around 5 p.m. and was caused by a broken sewer main, SFPUC officials said.

Crews initially closed Sacramento Street between Lyon and Baker streets.

Sacramento Street has since been reopened to traffic and pedestrians, according to SFPUC officials.

Crews will return the area Monday at 7 a.m. to repave the section where the work occurred.

During the paving, crews will once again temporarily close Sacramento Street, between Lyon and Baker streets. The work is estimated to last through the afternoon, SFPUC officials said.

The cause of the sewer main break has not yet been determined, however, crews believe the age of the pipes could be to blame, according to the SFPUC.

No injuries were reported during the incident and water and sewer service was not affected.
