Sinkhole Closes Northbound Lanes On CA-85 In Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- A sinkhole brought northbound traffic to a standstill on the CA-85 freeway in Sunnyvale Wednesday morning.

Two northbound lanes of the freeway north of the Fremont Avenue exit were closed for emergency repair starting just before 8 a.m. The sinkhole -- which appeared to be approximately six feet long and about four or five feet wide -- was first reported at about 6:30 a.m.

The hole was large enough that some cars were reportedly damaged when they drove over it.

The Fremont Avenue on-ramp in the northbound direction was also closed.

Motorists are being told to use alternate routes.

There is no estimated time to reopen the roadway
