Sierra Snowpack Holding Twice As Much Water As It Did Last Year
TAHOE (CBS SF) -- The Sierra snowpack is now holding twice as much water in the form of snow as it did this time last year, officials say.
The Department of Water Resources says the snowpack is now 111-percent of average for the time of year.
"But, that also has to be said in the context of a five year drought. We are three months into the fifth year of drought, so it's gonna take even much more precipitation this winter to even give us a shot at getting us out of the drought," Doug Carlson of the Department of Water Resources said.
The wet trend could continue into the new year, and that is exactly what officials are hoping to see happen.
