Sierra Resorts Rejoice As 1st Significant Storm Of Season Drops Snow In High Country

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- It was no drought-buster but a significant storm that moved across northern California Friday and Saturday gave hope that the coming winter will bring relief to a severely parched state.

In the High Sierra, Kirkwood Mountain Resort in Alpine County south of Lake Tahoe reported receiving 10 inches of new snow as of Saturday morning.

Ski resorts to the north of Lake Tahoe reported promising snowfall as well. Squaw Valley posted frosty photos to its Facebook page Saturday morning, exclaiming "November is off to a snowy start!"

"It's three years and coming. So we're due," Larry Hahn, with Coldstream Adventures Tours in Truckee, told KOVR-TV as the storm approached on Friday.

In the Bay Area, despite Friday's wet weather, October was mostly dry -- with San Francisco receiving only two-thirds of an inch of rain during the month.
