Shoulder Tightness Sidelines Kaepernick For Opener Against Texans

SANTA CLARA (AP) -- Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will sit out the San Francisco 49ers exhibition opener with tightness in his throwing shoulder.

Kaepernick did not throw in the final two practices before Sunday's game against the Houston Texans and was made inactive for the game.

Kaepernick is competing with Blaine Gabbert for San Francisco's starting quarterback role. Kaepernick lost the starting job midway through last season. He missed the offseason program after undergoing operations on his non-throwing shoulder, left knee and right thumb.

He then complained of a tired shoulder this week after as he tries to work his way back into form.
