Should Dogs Wear Pants On Two Or Four Legs?

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS-SF) – Jared Keller didn't realize the true power of social media until this week.

Keller, a deputy editor of Maxim Magazine, is also a dog lover. So when a friend forwarded a Facebook post of a drawing from a student in Belgium of dogs wearing pants on their front legs or all four legs, he posed a question to his Twitter followers.

Should dogs wear pants on two legs or four?

"I tweeted it out sort of thinking nothing of it and went to sleep," he told KCBS in an interview Wednesday. "When I woke up. I saw that it had gone viral."

Suddenly his Twitter feed turned "into a war zone."

"My Twitter mentions is a complete war zone right now," he said. "I can't really read any of the responses…I'm just trying to keep my head down and get my life back."

For the record, Keller says he's a four pant leg man.

"Everyone I know has answered two," he said. "They think of the front two legs as arms, but dogs don't have arms. You wear pants to protect your legs from debris and plants. So it doesn't make any sense to just cover up two."

Keller said he tracked down the student in Belgium and asked him why he created the post.

"He initially put the image together because he had seen a dog walking with pants on its two back legs and it just seemed wrong," he told KCBS.
