SONOMA COUNTY (CBS SF) -- A shallow grave containing possible human remains has been located at the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park, sheriff's deputies said.

Sonoma State University police issued a campus alert Wednesday night to all students after the shallow grave was found.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation and said their detectives and crime scene investigators are on the scene.

The Sheriff's Department posted on Facebook shortly before 9 p.m., "Sonoma County Sheriff's Violent Crimes detectives have been called to Sonoma State University on a call of a human body located in a shallow grave. We will update as soon as we know more."

The body has not yet been identified and deputies have not said how long it may have been in the ground before it was detected.
