SF To Get High-Tech Payment Options In Parking Garages Under $19M Plan
The San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency approved a $19 million contract that will upgrade the payment and security systems used in its
"Including near-field communications where you can tap your phone to make a payment onto a device," SFMTA Spokesperson Paul Rose told KCBS.
Rose said the time has come for the upgrades.
"The system we have in place now was implemented in the year 2000, or around there, and it's just old. They don't even make the parts anymore to upgrade and maintain some of these things," Rose said.
The plan still requires approval from the full Board of Supervisors. The plan would add surveillance equipment at entrances and exits to the garages, and at ticketing machines.
