Gunman On the Loose, Man Critically Injured After Shooting On Crowded Market Street In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police were searching for a suspect who shot a male victim multiple times in downtown San Francisco Sunday evening.

At about 7:15 p.m., San Francisco police responded to the scene of a shooting just outside the Westfield Mall in the 800 block of Market Street near Powell Street, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

Arriving officers found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Shyy.

The suspect fled the area on foot and remained on the loose.

A tourist caught much of the chaotic scene on his iPad.

The Powell Street BART station was temporarily shut down but later reopened, BART officials said.
