SF Police Recover Stolen Guitar Played By Former Red Hot Chili Peppers Band Member

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police have recovered a famed guitar that was stolen earlier this month from a neighborhood in southern San Francisco, police said Friday.

The guitar, once played by Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, was stolen at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 16 from the Potrero Hill/Bayview District area, police said.

Police are providing only a general location of the guitar owner's address because the owner fears the thieves may come back, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said.

The guitar is a 1966 Fender Telecaster worth $30,000 and was supposed to be loaned to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in two weeks.

Police discovered that the guitar had changed hands three times in 10 days, but they reunited the guitar with its owner Thursday.
