SF Man Realizes He's Been Shot Day After Fending Off Would-Be Robber

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man who got into a scuffle with a would-be robber while walking to the Civic Center BART station in San Francisco on Sunday night realized he had been shot a day later, police said Tuesday.

The 21-year-old man told police he was walking to the BART station around 11:30 p.m. when the incident occurred near Market and Seventh streets.

The suspect, a man in his 20s or 30s, approached the victim and took out a gun, demanding that the victim hand over his belongings, according to police.

The victim hit the gun that was in the suspect's hand and it discharged. The suspect then ran away, police said.

The victim went home and when he woke up Monday, he noticed he had been shot in the thigh, police said.

He took himself to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was treated for an injury not considered life-threatening, police said.

The victim did not report the attempted robbery and shooting until the day after the incident, according to police.
