San Francisco Cable Car Operator Suffers Brain Trauma After Hit By Suspected DUI Motorcyclist

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — A San Francisco Muni cable car operator suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was struck by an allegedly intoxicated motorcyclist in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood Thursday night.

According to San Francisco Police Officer Grace Gatpandan, the 50-year-old operator was getting off the cable car at the corner of Taylor and Francisco streets when he was struck from behind.

"They detained a motorcycle driver. This was not a hit-and-run. Ultimately the driver was placed under arrest for felony DUI," said Gatpandan.

The cable car operator suffered a fractured skull and brain injury and remains hospitalized at San Francisco General with life-threatening injuries.
