Several Hundred Thousand Dollars Stolen In El Cerrito Bank Robbery

EL CERRITO (CBS SF) -- A man stole several hundred thousand dollars from a bank branch inside a grocery store Monday morning in El Cerrito, police said.

At 10:38 a.m., a suspect presented a note demanding money to a teller of a U.S. Bank branch inside a Safeway, according to police.

Police said the teller then filled several bags with cash, totaling several hundred thousand dollars, and handed it over to the suspect.

The suspect then fled. Police describe him as a black man standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing roughly 150 pounds. He was apparently wearing a baseball hat.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call El Cerrito police at (510) 215-4400.

There is an unspecified reward for providing information leading to the suspect's arrest. He's considered potentially armed and people should not attempt to contact or apprehend him themselves.
