World Series Up For Grabs, But Giants Dominating Royals In Google Searches By State

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -We've been told by the media that that the Kansas City Royals are the fan favorites over the San Francisco Giants in the World Series, but our internet search habits tell a much different story.

The World Series is billed as a team of destiny looking to end an extensive title drought versus a squad of veteran contributors who always find a way to win. You would think that storyline would lead to a lot of people doing online research on the upstart Royals rather than the two time-champion Giants. You would be wrong, according to Google data leading up to the World Series.

Google researchers mapped the U.S. searches for both teams between Friday and Sunday and found that people near the coasts are searching for the Giants wile Googlers closer to Kansas City are zeroing in on Royals news.

In all, 18 states received more searches for the Royals over the weekend. The Giants were the more popular team along the Atlantic and Pacific, including Alaska and Hawaii. Here's the full map (click on individual states for complete search percentages)

Outside of Missouri, folks in Iowa and Kansas were doing the highest percentage of searches for the Royals. The Giants were heavily searched in California and surrounding states, but - perhaps surprisingly - about 80 percent of the searches in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut were for the Giants, rivaling the numbers on the West Coast.

Perhaps the people making those searches are just coming up with Hunter Pence sign material, or just maybe they're doing their research on the team they actually want to win (or the team they actually think will win?).

Game one of the best-of-seven series takes place Tuesday night. Get all the World Series info you really need on our Giants homepage.
