Series Of Storms To Dump Inches Of Rain On Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- Light rain is falling north of San Francisco in what forecasters say is the first sign of a series of storms expected to bring heavy rainfall and a lot of snow to drought-parched California this week.

The storm moving in Sunday is expected to pick up strength and cover a larger area of Northern California, KPIX 5 Meteorologist Brian Hackney says.

A second, stronger storm is forecast to arrive Monday night and Tuesday. That system will be packed with gusty winds and heavier rain.

The Bay Area could receive between 2 and 5 inches of rain this week.

Meanwhile Southern California is bracing for a series of storms expected to begin late Sunday that could last all week.
