Semi-truck on I-80 caught fire with 40,000 pounds of chocolate in it

PLACER COUNTY -- A semi-truck carrying 40,000 pounds of chocolate caused lanes on Interstate 80 and Highway 174 to shut down when it caught fire.

The incident occurred early Monday morning, just before 4:30 a.m. near the town of Colfax in Placer County.

Fire crews responded to the scene and managed to hold the fire to the trailer before it could spread to nearby vegetation. There were no injuries reported.

One lane of the freeway remains closed. The CHP estimates it will reopen after 3 p.m.

Closer to home, on Friday, another big rig, this one carrying wood pallets, caught fire on Highway 50 in downtown Sacramento. That fire led to a full closure of the highway and lingering closures that stretched on for hours.
