Sea Otter Births Pup In Monterey Aquarium Tide Pool As Onlookers Watch

MONTEREY (CBS SF) -- A wild sea otter that entered the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Great Tide Pool gave birth to a pup Saturday.

The birth took place in the afternoon as visitors and staff looked on, according to aquarium officials.

On Sunday morning, the mother and pup remained in the tide pool, resting.

The mother most likely entered the tide pool seeking shelter from stormy seas, aquarium officials said.

In December, another sea otter mother entered the tide pool's sheltered waters and gave birth, according to aquarium officials.
