Zoinks! Woman In 'Scooby Doo' Van Evades Police In High-Speed Chase

REDDING (CBS SF) – A Northern California woman reportedly driving a van that looked similar to the "Mystery Machine" from the "Scooby Doo" cartoons was able to evade police following a high-speed chase.

According to the Redding Police Department, 51-year-old Sharon Kay Turman led police on a chase in Redding on Sunday afternoon. Police were attempting to pull her over on a probation violation.

KRCR-TV in Redding reported that Turman was driving a 1994 Chrysler Town & Country minivan that was painted teal, green and had "The Mystery Machine" written on the side.

Police said Turman was driving so fast and had a "blatant disregard for public safety," that officers called off the chase.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol later spotted the minivan near the town of Anderson. Turman allegedly resumed the chase on Highway 273 and then Interstate 5, going at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour before authorities called off the pursuit in Tehama County.

Authorities said a CHP helicopter spotted Turman abandoning the minivan in northwestern Tehama County. Turman's whereabouts were unknown as of Monday afternoon. The "Mystery Machine" has been impounded by authorities.

Anyone who has information regarding this case is asked to contact the Redding Police as 530-225-4200 or Secret Witness of Shasta County at 530-243-2319.
