Saturday BART Ridership Sets 1-Day Weekend Record

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- BART ridership hit a new record high on Saturday and is expected to spike again Sunday, the transit agency said.

Marking the busiest weekend day ever, preliminary numbers were around 354,000 plus, BART officials said on Twitter.

Various Super Bowl 50 events happening throughout San Francisco and other Bay Area cities contributed to the spike in numbers.

The busiest weekend before that was in October 2012 when 319,000 people rode BART, BART officials said.

A final number will be released later Sunday.
