8 Displaced, 1 Injured In 3-Alarm Saratoga Apartment Fire

SARATOGA (CBS SF) -- One person suffered minor burns and eight residents were displaced in a three-alarm apartment fire in Saratoga Sunday morning, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

The incident was first reported at 9:49 a.m. in a four-unit apartment building at 20810 Fourth Street, according to fire officials.

The call generated a first-alarm response but firefighters upgraded the incident to a three-alarm fire after finding heavy fire conditions at the back of a second-story unit. The fire quickly spread into the attic, according to Battalion Chief Jason Falarski.

The blaze was brought under control around 11 a.m. One resident suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released at the scene. The Red Cross was also on scene Sunday morning to assist residents displaced by the fire.

The building's upstairs area sustained heavy fire damage, but the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
