Santa Rosa Police Cite 42 Drivers In 4 Hours For Using Phone
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) – Traffic enforcement officers issued 42 citations to drivers caught talking on cellphones during a special four-hour distracted driving enforcement operation in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, a police sergeant said.
The operation was conducted between 8 a.m. and noon primarily in the College, Mendocino and Santa Rosa avenues area of downtown Santa Rosa, Sgt. Mike Numainville said.
There were 26 other citations for not wearing a seat belt, speeding and right-of-way violations, Numainville said.
Twelve traffic officers, including some from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety and the California Highway Patrol, participated in the special enforcement during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, he said.
The traffic enforcement program involving several police agencies in Sonoma County is conducted in a different jurisdiction each month. Previous operations were in Rohnert Park and Cotati, Numainville said.
Each jurisdiction decides the local issue of its enforcement operation, he said.
