Santa Cruz Sets Up Water Conservation Classes To Let Residents Avoid Penalties
SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- Santa Cruz has set up something of a traffic school to help water wasters avoid penalties from the state during the severe drought.
Residents facing fines can have them waived by taking the two hour class on water conservation.
"Really we don't want to penalize people. We want to educate people because water is so precious, and we all need to do everything we can to conserve, so it's really an opportunity for us to educate the public," Eileen Cross of the Santa Cruz Water District said.
Residents can only take the class once, and if they're caught wasting water again, they will have to pay the fees.
