Santa Cruz Woman Badly Hurt In Fall From Cliff Near Natural Bridges Beach

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- The Santa Cruz Fire Department rescued a woman who fell from a cliff Friday evening east of Natural Bridges State Beach.

Firefighters responded to a report of a person who had fallen at West Cliff Drive and Merced Avenue at 7:42 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Mike Venezio.

They found a woman who had fallen on to rocks around 30 feet below the cliff while taking a walk near the edge. The tide was coming in and threatening to cover the rocks where she lay, Venezio said.

Fire department rescue swimmers were able to stabilize the woman and place her in a basket in which she was raised back up to street level, Venezio said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and then flown to a trauma center with multiple injuries.
