Santa Clara Woman Accused Of Drowning 12-Year-Old Son In Bathtub

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- A Santa Clara woman has been accused of murdering her adopted 12-year-old son by drowning him in the bathtub of their home earlier this month.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's office said 51-year-old Tara McNeill Palajac confessed to drowning her son after initially claiming the boy had drowned by accident.

On January 8, police and paramedics were called to the family's home on Connor Place near Wincester Ave. after Palajac reported finding her son unconscious in the water.

The boy could not be revived and was was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Three days later after further interrogation by police Palajac confessed to killing her son, according to the district attorney's office.  She was arrested the following day and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

Palajac was scheduled to return to court February 1.
