Santa Clara Offers Rebates To Encourage Water Conservation
SANTA CLARA (KCBS)— Many in the Bay Area have already installed low-flow showerheads and toilets, so when Governor Jerry Brown asked us to voluntarily reduce our water consumption by 20 percent, many were wondering how to do that.
The Santa Clara Valley Water District was offering several rebate offers including one that just started called the Laundry-to-Landscape Graywater Program.
"People can get $100 rebate to install a system which will take their washer water and use it in their own yard," said program spokesman Marty Grimes, also the program administrator for the Santa Clara Valley Water District's communication unit.
Grimes said the laundry setup could save as much as 17 gallons a day. Also, shortening showers from 10 to 5 minutes, which can save 15 gallons of water, fixing leaky toilets, not flushing as much and reducing the amount of time you water your lawn would put you well on your way to a 20 percent reduction.
